Description Ponta Do Pargo Tour


With a scheduled departure from the hotel at about 9 am, we will go to the picturesque town of Ribeira Brava, where you will get to know the town centre, possibility to visit the Ethnographic Museum of Madeira, where you will be able to tell much of our old history, entrance fee.

Depending on the day we can visit the Ribeira Brava church.

This church has Manueline, Mannerist and Baroque characteristics and houses a rich collection of paintings, sculptures, gold and silver work and gilded carvings from the 16th and 17th century, making it one of the most important heritage sets in the region, its treasure has been exhibited at the Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Brussels.

Inside, there are magnificent chandeliers; a collection of 16th and 17th century silver pieces; a monumental image of Our Lady of the Rosary, of Flemish production, dating from around 1520; and panels of Flemish origin representing the Virgin and Child flanked by St. Benedict and St. Bernard. The main chapel is dominated by a magnificent altarpiece of gilded and polychrome carving from the late 17th century.

It is a place not to be missed.

The famous Cascata Dos Anjos, you can stop, to take pictures, if you have a manual chair, ( no electronic equipment ) you can take some pictures under the waterfall.

We go to a small farm in Prazeres, Calheta, called Quinta Pedagógica Dos Prazeres.

It is a small farm where you can see many animals, with an entrance fee of 1€. In this place has a small cafe support, where there are many homemade sweets, liqueurs and olive oils, many of them with several international awards.

We finish our tour in an epic place to see the sunset, the lighthouse of Ponta Do Pargo.

Various pieces of Madeira lighthouses, photographs, documentation and a panel exhibition on the history of the marking of the Madeira region make up this museum centre.

Ponta do Pargo lighthouse stands on a cliff 300 metres above sea level at Ponta da Vigia, the westernmost point of Madeira Island.

In 1999 it was classified as a local cultural heritage site and since 2001 it has had a museum centre, where various items related to Madeira’s lighthouses are exhibited, from photographs to documentation, bringing together in one place the history of these important monuments to the archipelago’s history.

This is one of the favourite places to watch the sunset.

We can dine here in a restaurant with a privileged view.

Then we return to the hotel.
