With more than 125 years of history, fábrica Mel-de-Cana Ribeiro Sêco de V. Melim, Lda is a reference in the production of cane honey, a product that crosses its identity with the identity of Madeira Island.

Soon after the discovery of the Island in 1419, this space was established among sugarcane producers, an activity that became a foundation in the development and prosperity of Madeira. Since then and until today, the coat of arms of the city of Funchal keeps as weapons the five sugar breads.

The production of sugar, cane honey and brandy reached its highest exponent in the 15th and 16th centuries, because even though the 33 mills were small, many foreigners claimed that Madeira's sugar was the best in the world.
