Machico was the first place the navigators found when they arrived at Madeira Island in July 1419.
In this municipality we can find several viewpoints where we can see its beautiful landscapes, from the sea to the mountains.
Machico is one of the places that has one of the most accessible beaches for people in wheelchairs.
Caniçal is part of this council, the most arid place (desert type) we have in Madeira Island.
It’s a fishing area, where fishing is still very traditional.
We can visit the Whale Museum, where the history of whale fishing on our island is told.
